Lawyers without Borders (UofG Student Division) - publication of research reports
Lawyers without Borders (UofG Student Division) have published their 2025/26 research reports, now available to read on SSRN. The initial findings of the reports were shared at their Spring Research Symposium last month. The event was held in partnership with Lawyers without Borders (University of Edinburgh student division) and the GO Justice Centre at the University of Glasgow on 28 May.

Environment : Written by Cornelia Ecke, Susie Lambert, Phuong Thao Ta and Kayla Young, ‘”Debt Justice” and the Environment” addresses a key issue at the intersection of environmental law and international finance: the relationship between the ‘twin crises’ of Global South indebtedness and the climate emergency. In their paper, the authors analyse the challenges associated with debt-for-nature swap schemes, before outlining recommendations for how the international financial system can more equitably and effectively address both crises. Civil Liberties: Written by Basant Elwasseif, Phoo Wai Yan Myint, William Terry and Kaitlyn Urruela, ‘How Can Action Groups in the UK Shape Future Discussion on the UK Approach to the Handling of Criminal Court Backlogs?’ explores the challenges posed by the Crown Court backlog through the lens of the right to a fair trial. Immigration: Written by Ella Baxter, Ellie Dickson and Hollie Gibson, ‘Protection in Principle, Detention in Practice’ details the experiences of women survivors of gender-based violence in UK Immigration Removal Centres. In the paper, the authors identify structural shortcomings in detention conditions and highlight the acute difficulty faced by trauma survivors in such a context.
